RAKTA Offers Free Rides on Purple Route from 3rd June, Launches First Electric Bus

The Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority (RAKTA) has launched an upgraded version of the Purple Route on Wednesday, 3rd June. The upgrade significantly expands public transport coverage in the city and improves connectivity.

The Purple Route in Ras Al Khaimah links Al Nakheel and Manar Mall. RAKTA announced that the bus service will be free of charge during its first month, starting 3rd June, allowing residents to enjoy free rides during the trial launch period.

Updates on the Purple Route and Electric Bus

The updated Purple Route includes a 14-kilometre rise in geographical coverage, with modified routes and added bus stops. RAKTA has also revised operating schedules for better time coverage and to make the service more dependable and convenient for commuters.

The revamped route features nine key stations, allowing better connectivity between residential, healthcare and educational locations. It begins at Al Nakheel and runs through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, Obaidullah Hospital, American University of Ras Al Khaimah, the Al Seih area, Ras Al Khaimah Hospital, Public Health Centre – Preventive Medicine, People of Determination Centre, and Manar Mall bus station. The route ends as the bus returns to Al Nakheel.

Simultaneously, the authority has launched Ras Al Khaimah’s first electric bus, which is a sustainable mobility initiative. It is part of the upgraded Purple Route launch and aims to reduce ecological impacts of public transportation within the city, while adding a new smart mobility solution to the emirate’s transport network.

Benefits to Residents

The new bus service along the Purple Route will take up to 12 trips every day to meet rising demand. Residents can expect reducing waiting times, improved access to essential services and more flexible travel options.

RAKTA added that users can download the Sayer smart application, which allows them to plan trips, see up-to-date schedules and track bus routes in real time.

You can visit RAKTA’s social media pages and their website for more information on detailed timings along the Purple Route.
