The Dubai-to-RAK drive time is expected to be slashed by nearly half in the coming period. Major road upgrades to E11 and E311 aim to cut the journey time by 33 minutes, bringing it to around 50 minutes, depending on traffic.
Previously, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) announced an upgrade to Emirates Road to reduce travel time for those heading from RAK to Dubai, passing through Umm Al Quwain and Sharjah.
Combined with the prospect of air taxis and the planned addition of an Etihad Rail station to Ras Al Khaimah’s transport network, travel between Ras Al Khaimah and Dubai is becoming easier.
The project has an estimated cost of AED 750 million and will be implemented over two years. It consists of expanding the road from three to five lanes in each direction, covering a distance of 25 kilometres. This begins from Al Badee Interchange to Umm Al Quwain. The road’s capacity will be increased to approximately 9,000 vehicles per hour, representing a 65 per cent increase in volume.
Interchange No. 7 will also be developed. Six directional bridges are to be built, with a total length of 12.6 kilometres and a maximum capacity of 13,200 vehicles every hour. In addition, 3.4 kilometres of service roads are being constructed on both sides of the main road.
Aside from easing traffic congestion and reducing the Dubai-to-RAK drive time, MoEI noted that the project helps reduce emissions from traffic jams. It also allows for smoother movement of goods and services between the emirates.
