Ajman Strengthens Its Position on the Global Sports Tourism Map

Ajman is continuing to make moves in the world of sports and lifestyle tourism, with a new strategic partnership set to bring more international golf events to the emirate.

The Dept of Tourism, Culture & Media, Ajman has announced a collaboration with WPSL Services during the annual WAGI Pairs Championship, held at the stunning Al Zorah Golf & Yacht Club on May 8.

The partnership forms part of Ajman Vision 2030 and aims to further position the emirate as a destination for premium leisure, sports and staycation experiences.

Set against Ajman’s waterfront, the championship welcomed amateur golfers from across the UAE, all competing for the chance to represent the country at the World Amateur Golfers Invitational in Malaysia.

The international tournament attracts players from more than 40 countries worldwide, further spotlighting Ajman on the global golfing stage.

The move reflects a wider trend in global tourism, where destinations are increasingly turning to sports, wellness, and experiential travel to attract high-value visitors. Golf tourism, in particular, has seen significant growth, combining luxury hospitality, wellness escapes, and destination-driven travel into one experience.

Officials say the partnership will help drive sustainable tourism growth while introducing more international visitors to Ajman’s beaches, culture, and hospitality offerings. It also reinforces the role of Al Zorah Golf & Yacht Club as one of the UAE’s standout waterfront lifestyle and golf destinations.

His Excellency Mahmood Khaleel Alhashmi, Director-General of the Dept. of Tourism, Culture & Media, Ajman, said the initiative reflects the emirate’s commitment to tourism diversification and strengthening its position as a leading destination for leisure and sports tourism.

He added that golf tourism continues to play an important role in enhancing destination visibility, supporting the visitor economy, and contributing to long-term tourism sustainability.

Russell Yeomans, CEO of WPSL Services, also highlighted the growing importance of events like the WAGI Pairs Championship in connecting amateur golfers with international opportunities while introducing more leisure travellers to Ajman.

The partnership supports Ajman’s ongoing focus on enhancing premium staycation experiences, expanding tourism offerings, and positioning sports tourism as a key driver of economic growth across the emirate.
