Ras Al Khaimah Staycations Are Booming as More UAE Residents Holiday Closer to Home

Ras Al Khaimah continues to prove a popular choice for UAE residents looking for an easy escape closer to home. Domestic travellers accounted for 47 per cent of visitors to the emirate during the first half of 2026, with more than 670,000 arrivals recorded between January and June, according to the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority.

The staycation trend has remained strong even through the warmer summer months. Domestic tourism reached a high point in May, increasing by 132.7 per cent compared to the same month in 2025.

Part of the appeal lies in the growing variety of flexible, experience-led breaks available across the emirate. Travellers are increasingly looking beyond the room rate, seeking packages that combine good value with wellness, dining and added extras. Resorts, particularly those on Al Marjan Island, have responded with spa-focused staycations, relaxing retreats and packages designed around rest and wellbeing.

Families are also well catered for, with many hotels offering all-inclusive stays, children’s entertainment and complimentary accommodation or dining for younger guests. Room upgrades, meal-plan offers and access to resort facilities make it easier to plan a fuss-free break without travelling far from home.

The emirate’s appeal also extends well beyond its resorts, with a growing dining scene giving visitors more reasons to explore. One of this summer’s highlights is Flavours of Ras Al Khaimah, a limited-time dining series running from July to September across five restaurants.

Each venue is serving a specially curated menu featuring locally produced Ras Al Khaimah honey, showcasing one of the emirate’s homegrown ingredients while encouraging diners to discover more of its culinary offering.

Culture and heritage remain an equally important part of the experience. Visitors can learn about the emirate’s pearl-diving history at Suwaidi Pearls Farm, explore local stories at the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah or visit landmarks including Al Jazeera Al Hamra Heritage Village and Dhayah Fort.

Looking ahead, the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority is working to establish the emirate as a year-round destination rather than one that relies on a single peak travel season.

A strong pipeline of hotel developments is also expected to support that ambition. Upcoming openings include Rotana Ras Al Khaimah – The Mangroves, Hilton Marjan Island and Wynn Al Marjan Island, further expanding the emirate’s accommodation, dining and entertainment offering for both UAE residents and international travellers.
