The UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation have announced Monday, 15th June, as an official holiday for both public and private sector companies in honour of the Hijri New Year 1448.
The date has been confirmed in line with the official approved list of public holidays for 2026, issued by the UAE Cabinet. As the holiday falls on a Monday, employees can enjoy a three-day-long weekend starting on Saturday, 13th June.
The holiday comes after the recent Eid Al Adha break, which gave UAE residents a much-needed long break.
What is Hijri New Year 2026?

Hijri New Year, also called the Islamic New Year, marks the beginning of a new Islamic year, which follows the lunar calendar and is subject to official moon sightings. The occasion falls at the beginning of Muharram, the first month of the Hijri calendar.
Moon sightings typically take place on the 29th of every Hijri month. On 29 Dhul Hijjah, which is 15th June, if the moon is sighted, the new month of Muharram will begin the next day, which is Tuesday, 16th June.
In case the moon is not sighted on the 15th, Dhul Hijjah will complete 30 days, and Muharram 1 will fall on Wednesday, 17th June.
